Dear Editor,
Once again Congressman Joe Wilson states the obvious, with lots of information, but little on specific solutions. Congress holds the “power of the purse” but Mr. Wilson has gotten little through the House, Senate, and onto the desk in the Oval Office.
Joe went traipsing around the 2nd District on a listening tour. But what does he plan to do? I wasn’t able to provide my input, other than letters and e-mails that had no response or a patronizing letter or e-mail that didn’t address my concerns.
So, let me make some concrete policy recommendations. Firstly, defund the Green New Deal that has repeatedly been a disaster and has contributed to our economic woes. Representative Wilson welcomed the EV plant without considering that prices are too high, even with subsidies and sales are down. Our state doesn’t have the energy infrastructure necessary, manufacturing creates a huge carbon footprint and the minerals for batteries must be obtained from China. We must reinstate a nuclear power program, and pursue fracking, oil, and clean coal as renewables are not enough.
Eliminate the IRS and our Federal Income Tax via a national sales tax, known as the FairTax (www.fairtax.org), but Joe won’t sponsor the bill. It will save Medicare, and Social Security, create jobs, and increase manufacturing and foreign investment. Americans will receive a pre-bate on the average of $400/ month for essential goods and services.
Eliminate the Department of Education and discontinue Pell Grants and Federal Loans in order to bring down costs for higher education.
Having worked in China for 15 years, I understand that the CCP has been undermining the US for years. Why hasn’t Congress implemented the Cox Commission Report of 1999 just prior to our congressman’s first election to the House? Mr. Wilson touts his Savannah Nuclear Waste Disposal site when his son and SC AG allocated some of the state funds from the lawsuit to his former law firm. Finally, Joe introduced legislation for farm subsidies that are generally unhelpful.
