Joseph Edward “Joe Ed” Nash, Sr. , 88, went to his eternal home in Heaven Friday, August 11, 2023, in Irmo. He was born to Coy Lecil and Maidee Wozencraft Nash in Blount County, Alabama on 16 February 1935. Growing up, Joe was active in church and sang with a popular quartet, the Rhythmaires. Joe married Mary Gordon Burgess in 1954 in Gadsden, Alabama and soon moved to Warner Robbins, Georgia, where he worked in civil service and began his career with IBM.
He served eight years in the United States Navy Reserve and was honorably discharged in 1960. Joe and Snookie then moved to South Carolina, where they raised their family and lived happily for sixty-three years. He had been a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church since 1967.
After retiring from IBM in 1991, Joe and Snookie started a travel agency. Snookie Nash Travel served corporate and private travelers in the Columbia area for almost a decade. While Joe was running the back office at the agency, he became a certified TRAMS consultant.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his son, Joseph Edward “Eddie” Nash, Jr.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of sixty-nine years, Mary Burgess “Snookie” Nash; sons, Timothy Gordon Nash of Hendersonville, NC and Stephen Coy Nash (Suzanne) of Chapin; daughter, MaryJo Nash Ebo (Ken) of Fort Worth, Texas and daughter-in-law Sally McMaster Nash (wife of Eddie) of Bythewood; grandchildren, Joseph Matthew Nash, Chadwick Jacob Nash, Joseph Colby Nash, Samantha Lee Nash, Lucas Coy Nash, Gerald Kenneth Ebo, III, Isabella Grace Nash Ebo and great-grandson, Chadwick Jackson Nash.
A visitation for Joe Ed was held Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel followed by a memorial service.
