Mike Ward received the majority of votes over two other contenders in a special election held on Tuesday, June 3 to fill a vacated Irmo town council seat. Ward had an unofficial count of 327 votes distancing himself from George Frazier who garnered 162 votes. Ed Greco finished with 81 votes. This is the third time that Ward has run for an elected position within the town and once for a Lexington/Richland District Five school board seat in 2024. Ward will be on council until the election in November of 2027.
All three candidates have a connection with the town. Ward is chairman of the Irmo Okra Strut while Frazier is the Irmo Events Committee chair and Greco serves on the Irmo Planning Commission.
“I am truly honored that our town has chosen me to represent them on Irmo Town Council,” said Ward. “I am dedicated to living up to being the best councilman I can be for everyone.”
Final vote counts will be available after the vote is certified.
Ward will be sworn in at the next regular council meeting to be held on Tuesday, June 17.
