The Optimist Club of St. Andrews-Irmo celebrated their 2024 Day of Giving at Seven Oaks Park on Friday, Oct. 11. Each year the members raise funds for youth programs and foundations in the Greater Irmo Community by selling Christmas trees and handmade wreaths at McGregor Presbyterian Church during the holidays, the Annual Golf tournament in the Spring and this year by selling Boston Butts through Maurice’s BBQ.
“Eighteen organizations that serve the youth were beneficiaries of the Optimist Club’s hard work this year,” said Club President Kerry Powers. “This surpasses previous years in the club.”
This year’s recipients were Harbison West Elementary, H.E.Corley Elementary, Irmo Elementary, Katrina’s Kids, Homeworks, Families Helping Families, Ready By Five, Palmetto Place, Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission, Irmo Police Department Community Foundation, Universal Leadership & Steam Academy, McGregor Presbyterian, Sharing God’s Love, SC Career Kids and Midlands Orphan Relief.
Mathias Sandwich Shop provided breakfast and coffee. The Optimist Club of St. Andrews-Irmo was established in 1971 and meets every Friday morning at Honda of Lake Murray
