Every year, the Optimist Club of St. Andrews-Irmo sets aside a day to give back to the community. At Irmo Town Park, the Optimists gathered this year’s recipients for the purpose of awarding over $16,000 in donations to causes that benefit youth. The funds are a direct result of sales at the annual Optimist Club Tree Lot, which operates on the grounds of McGregor Presbyterian Church.
In more normal, i.e., pre-Covid19 times, there has been a second fundraiser that generates an almost equal amount of dollars. However, this year’s donations lacked the contributions from the golf tournament, which had to be canceled.
In the photo are this year’s recipients, with the checks being handed out by outgoing Club President, Jay Downs. Jay is in the center of the photograph, holding a microphone.
Plans are in high gear, as this is written, to offer the tree lot in a responsible, socially-distanced manner. Tree lot customers are always reminded of the fact that net proceeds of their purchases go right back into the community.
