The Richlex High School Class of 1964 recently gathered for a memorable 60th reunion, held from July 26-28, 2024. This special event honored the legacy of Richlex School, which played a crucial role in education for Black students in Richland and Lexington Counties.
Established in 1953, Richlex School served as a beacon of education for Black children during a time of segregation. Over the course of its operation until 1968, the school graduated 530 students from high school and provided elementary and high school education to an additional 603 students. The school’s dual system structure was a vital component of the community until the integration of schools in 1968.
The reunion not only celebrated the achievements of the Class of 1964 but also reflected on the profound impact Richlex High had on its students and the broader community.
