In a groundbreaking collaboration, River Springs Elementary School joined forces with the South Carolina Department of Education’s personalized learning team to host a Design Workshop on November 28. This unique workshop aimed to revolutionize professional development for educators by providing a platform for collaboration and the creation of engaging instructional practices tailored to the needs of their students.
The theme of the River Springs Design Workshop, “Teachers and Students Measuring Growth,” underscored a commitment to fostering an environment where both educators and students actively contribute to the learning process. The workshop honed in on three key ideas: standards and competencies, learning progressions, and empowering students to monitor their own learning journey.
Fifteen dedicated teachers and administrators from River Springs enthusiastically collaborated with representatives from the SC Department of Education, as well as educators from the state of Utah. Together, they embarked on a journey to develop learning progressions, craft rubrics, and implement classroom practices designed to instill a sense of ownership in students regarding their educational growth.
During the workshop, teachers worked in vertical and grade-level teams, sharing insights and ideas to enhance the learning experience. The focus on standards and competencies aimed to ensure a robust educational foundation, while the emphasis on learning progressions sought to create a cohesive and seamless educational journey for students.
A highlight of the Design Workshop was the opportunity for a select group of teachers from River Springs to share their implementation process with educational leaders from Utah.
