Irmo High School Fosters Unity with Annual Goodwill Brunch

In a display of community spirit, Irmo High School welcomed nearly 150 attendees to its annual Goodwill Brunch on December 7. This cherished event, designed to bridge the generation gap between students and senior citizens, has become a beacon of connection, showcasing student talents and spreading holiday cheer.

Conceived a few years ago, the Goodwill Brunch has evolved into a beloved tradition that goes beyond mere entertainment. The event provides a unique opportunity for seniors to witness the impressive talents of Irmo High School students while enjoying a delightful southern breakfast.

Dr. Kaaren Hampton, Principal of Irmo High School, emphasized the significance of the Goodwill Brunch in fostering connections between different age groups. “The Goodwill Brunch allows us to showcase our students’ talent to the senior community who may not have other ways to engage with young people,” said Dr. Hampton. “This year our student council organized the event as a community service project to not only show their interest but bring some cheer during the holiday season.”

The festive occasion unfolded with a delicious meal generously provided by the Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission and the School District Five student nutrition department. Once satiated, the guests were treated to a spectacular array of performances from various student groups, including the Irmo High School Master Class Orchestra, Theater students, the Irmo High School Dance Ensemble, Irmo High School Concert Choir, the Irmo High School Symphonic Winds, and the Irmo Guitar Ensemble.

Irmo High School senior Payton McNeely, who volunteered at the event, expressed the joy of giving back to the community. “The Goodwill Brunch really showcases the compassion that Irmo students have for our community in a way that leaves everyone with holiday cheer and togetherness,” said McNeely. “We serve the community, but at the same time, they serve us by showing us how many people truly care about our school and students on a deeper level.”

The Goodwill Brunch stands as a testament to Irmo High School’s commitment to fostering meaningful connections, spreading joy, and creating a sense of togetherness during the holiday season. It is a celebration that not only showcases the talent of the students but also underscores the mutual care and appreciation that binds the school and its broader community.
