COLUMBIA, SC – The South Carolina Philharmonic’s 60th Anniversary Season continues with a thrilling evening of Tchaikovsky & Tangos on November 15 at 7:30 p.m. at the Koger Center for the Arts. Highlighting this fall concert, Concertmaster Mary Lee Taylor Kinosian will perform Astor Piazzolla’s fiery Four Seasons of Buenos Aires, adding a passionate flair to the season’s lineup.
The program opens with Alla siciliana from Amy Beach’s Gaelic Symphony, setting a gentle, lyrical tone. Kinosian then takes center stage to perform Piazzolla’s piece, known for its tango-infused intensity and nods to Vivaldi’s Four Seasons through Russian composer Leonid Desyatnikov’s 1996 arrangement for solo violin and orchestra. Tchaikovsky’s emotionally charged Symphony No. 6, Pathétique brings the evening to a powerful close, promising an unforgettable night of music.
A native of Columbia, Kinosian began her music journey at age five and joined the South Carolina Philharmonic as a teen. Her extensive career spans roles with the San Jose Symphony, Nashville Symphony, and Columbia’s Upton Trio, where her compositions have been featured on NPR. Now assistant concertmaster of the Greenville Symphony, Kinosian’s diverse experience and dedication to performance have cemented her as a vibrant contributor to Columbia’s arts scene.
