Spring Hill High School – A Top Ranked Magnet High School in your Community

Spring Hill High School (SHHS), Career Pathways Magnet, opened its doors in August of 2013 as an all-choice, all-magnet public high school in School District Five of Lexington and Richland Counties. At that time, it was the first of its kind in the midlands. What was only a vision and blueprints in 2012 is now a top ranked magnet high school in your community.

Each year Spring Hill High School asks families of rising 9th graders to imagine their future as part of the Spring Hill family. To imagine being a member of the #1 Open Enrollment Magnet School in the State of South Carolina as ranked by U.S. News & World Report. To imagine being a part of the #1 Best High School in the midlands and the #3 Best High School in the state also ranked by U.S. News & World Report. To imagine learning from teachers ranked in the top 3% in the nation and ranked as the #1 teaching staff in the midlands by Niche.com.

SHHS has been able to achieve local, state and national rankings by providing students the opportunity to explore pathways in Engineering, Entertainment, Entrepreneurial, Environmental Studies and Exercise Science. Students are able to take courses in one or more of the pathways to develop their talents and interests and to expose them to what they believe are their passions.  Dr. Michael Lofton, founding principal, states “It is often believed that a magnet program offers a narrow focus to students. Here at SHHS, our belief is that we want students to explore their interests and try new things to discover who they are and where they want to go in the future. “

With no academic criteria to become a member of SHHS, the students at Spring Hill strive to achieve their best in their coursework. With a student body of 1100, 22 different Advanced Placement courses are offered. For the 22-23 school year, 755 AP exams were administered with a 82% pass rate with 37% of the student population taking at least 1 AP exam. SHHS is also recognized by The College Board as an AP Honor Roll School and has earned the AP Access Award for providing equitable access to advanced coursework for their students.

Walking the halls of Spring Hill High School, you will hear students and staff refer to “The Spring Hill WAY”.  The WAY stands for Working with Others, Academically Focused, and Youth- Inspired. The goal of The WAY is that in addition to challenging and motivating each other, students share knowledge, celebrate successes, and work together to achieve common goals. By developing appreciation and respect for one another’s differences and actively seeking opportunities to embrace diversity, the school is preparing students to become productive members of the modern workforce in today’s connected world.

At Spring Hill, students are encouraged to get involved with extracurricular activities to include intramurals and over 40-student led clubs. From gaming to leadership programs, from service projects to musical performances, there is a way for every student to grow and transform into anything they want to be! As one 2021 Alum said “Spring Hill High School creates individuals who have the confidence to choose their own paths. You come here and discover that you can make a difference.”
