The Irmo Police Department arrested two men on December 21 following a brief vehicle pursuit that ended in a collision at North Lake Drive/SC-6 and Old Cherokee Road.
Joshua D. Riley, 45, of Orangeburg, and Daion A. Bowers, 39, of Columbia, were taken into custody after the car they were in struck another vehicle.
The incident began around 3:00 p.m. when an Irmo police officer observed a Lincoln Town Car with a license plate violation on Lake Murray Boulevard. When the officer attempted to pull the car over, it entered a Kroger parking lot but did not stop, instead driving in circles before reentering Lake Murray Boulevard. The ensuing pursuit crossed the Lake Murray Dam into Lexington and ended when the car struck another vehicle after turning onto Old Cherokee Road.
Riley, the driver, was arrested at the scene, while Bowers, a passenger, fled on foot but was apprehended shortly after with assistance from the Lexington Police Department. Fortunately, no injuries were reported from the collision.
Riley faces multiple charges, including:
- Expired Temporary Tag
- Reckless Driving
- Failure to Stop for Blue Lights (2nd Offense)
- Driving Under Suspension (1st Offense)
- Operating an Uninsured Vehicle
- Open Container
- Simple Possession of Marijuana
Bowers was charged with Interfering/Resisting Arrest and was found to have outstanding warrants from South Carolina Probation, Pardon, and Parole, as well as the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department.
Both men were transported to the Lexington County Detention Center. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the collision.
