Youngs Chapel Level Up Summer Camp was held this week at Midlands Technical College Harbison Campus. The free summer camp was for ages 6-12 and ran from 7:30am until 6pm each day. Students participated in art, dance, gardening and STEM activities. Focusing on academic enrichment, financial literacy, character building and leadership goals the camp is enrolled with children from the Irmo area and directed by Mrs. Harriet Abraham.

A full meal breakfast and lunch was served each day along with a multitude of snacks provided by the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative which is a private funded charity to bridge the gap with funds from community members and businesses who support those that are less fortunate. The total contribution from the Mayor’s Uplift Initiative was $6,500. The initiative program began in July of 2025 and since then has provided funds for those who have needs such as food or utility bill help.

“The camp is entering it’s fifth year with 50 children.,” said Pastor Frederick Wilson of Youngs Chapel AME. “We are appreciative of the mayor’s uplift initiative by helping us feed the children this week and the Mungo Foundation that generously donated $10,000 to the camp.” The children went on a field trip during the week.

Wilson said they received donations from private donors as well and the church is also a  part of the program..
