Columbia, S.C. – American Legion Post 174 held a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 25, in the parking lot of the Hardee’s location on Piney Grove Road.
The ceremony opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and invocation led by Pleshette Murray, followed by opening remarks from Vice Commander Brian Ritter.
Guest speaker Jacob Wood, a deputy with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and a U.S. Army veteran, delivered remarks honoring the sacrifices of fallen service members.
The Dutch Fork High School JROTC Color Guard presented the colors and was accompanied by a saber team, adding a formal military tribute to the ceremony. The National Anthem was performed by the All for Him music group.
The Memorial Day service brought the community together to honor fallen heroes and support the families they left behind. Organizers emphasized the importance of not only remembrance, but also providing guidance, resources, and assistance to families who may not be aware of available benefits and support services.
