Chapin High Hosts Largest Student Council Convention in State History

Chapin High School Student Government proudly hosted the 77th Annual South Carolina Association of Student Councils (SCASC) State Convention from March 14 to March 16, welcoming more than 650 student delegates and 130 advisors from 71 schools across the state—making it the largest SCASC convention ever held.

The three-day event brought student leaders together for workshops, networking, and inspiring keynote speakers, all under this year’s theme: “Do it Big and Give it Class.”

Several Lexington-Richland School District Five schools were represented, including Chapin Middle School, Dutch Fork Middle School, and Irmo High School. The convention was hosted at Chapin High School in honor of its Student Body President Benson Lominack, who currently serves as SCASC State President.

“Hosting the largest state convention in SCASC history was a difficult but also rewarding task for our council,” said Lominack. “We are proud of what we accomplished together.”

District Superintendent Dr. Akil E. Ross, Sr. delivered a motivating speech to attendees, emphasizing the importance of leadership, community, and character.

The event also featured elections for new SCASC officers. Kylie Taylor of Chapin High School was elected to serve on the SCASC officer team for the upcoming year.

The record-breaking convention celebrated student leadership, teamwork, and the power of young voices making a difference across South Carolina.
