The Irmo Town Council Tuesday gave final reading approval to an ordinance that establishes safety regulations for swimming pools located in residential areas of the town.
The measure will require pool owners to have swimming pools fenced so they won’t be entered by outsiders who could face safety problems by entering the pool. The ordinance is aimed at making sure children do not wander into pool areas.
The ordinance also requires owners to keep pools clean.
The council also gave final reading to an ordinance that updates business license tax regulations to be in compliance with the state’s License Tax Standardization Act.
In other action the council approved the purchase of four Chevrolet Tahoes from Love Chevrolet in the amount not to exceed $213,528.
The council also updated the Town Code on building regulations related to technical codes.
The council gave first reading approval to an ordinance that rezones property on Muskrat Run Road from General Residential to Fringe Agriculture.
The council agreed to submit a grant request to the Undiscovered SC Grant Program in the amount of $200,00 for construction projects at the new Rawls Creek Park. The park is the site for the town’s new dog park, skate park and garden area.
The council ratified budget amendments for the 20-21 Fiscal Year totaling $368,166.73.
The council also agreed to the temporary appointment of Renee Caviness as Municipal Clerk. Vi Humphries-Racine, the current clerk, is on temporary leave due to illness.
The council recognized “Murraywood Health Foods” as the August Small Business of the Month. “Southern Strut” was recognized as the July Small business of the Month.
The Council heard a presentation from Vote411, an organization founded by the League of Women Voters that provides citizens with information on elections. The 411 site provides information on voting locations, candidates and election dates.
The council also received a presentation from Miriam Atria of Lake Murray Country on the organization’s latest national promotions, which include TV shows. Lake Murray Country promotes numerous fishing tournaments in the Lake Murray area and provides visitor guides.
