Scout units from the Irmo area participated in the Scouting for Food drive to help restock the shelves of Sharing God’s Love Food Bank in Irmo.
Sharing God’s Love received more than 7000 pounds of food items and cash donations of almost $500.
“The partnership with the Boy Scouts of America units in our area was very successful in helping to fill up our food pantry”, said Richie Eisenman of Sharing God’s Love. “We are thankful for the support of the Scouts over these many years.”
Sharing God’s Love helps with food, clothing and utility needs for more than 10,000 individuals in St. Andrews, Irmo, and Ballentine areas and celebrated its 40th anniversary of operation this year.
Scouts from Cub Scout Packs 95, 139 and 326, Scouts BSA Troops 91, 95 and 326 and Venturing Crew 312 collected donations from the St. Andrews and Irmo areas and then delivered the food to Sharing God’s Love on February 10. Private individuals and Costco contributed almost $500 to help support the purchase of essential items needed by Sharing God’s Love.
“Scouting for Food is one of our most important service projects”, said Jerry Hilbish, Scoutmaster of Troop 91. “Sharing God’s Love and other food pantries have nearly depleted their food supplies over the holiday season and this event helps restock their shelves. All of the Scouts would like to thank the people from the Irmo and St. Andrews communities who donated to this food drive.”
Cub Scout Packs 95, 139 and 326 meet at Union United Methodist Church, Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, respectively and serve girls and boys ages 5-10. Scouts BSA Troop 91 meets at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church and serves girls ages 11-18. Scouts BSA Troops 95 and 326 meets at Union United Methodist Church and St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, respectively and serve boys ages 11-18, Venturing Crew 312 meets at the Episcopal Church of St. Simon and St. Jude and serves youth ages 14-21.
