The Irmo Cherry Blossom Festival has announced the winner and honorable mentions of its haiku contest. The winning haiku, submitted by Marcellin Dallaire-Beaumont from Brussels, Belgium, beautifully captures the essence of nature and companionship:
old neighbor’s bench
two wilted petals
side by side
The contest received entries from around the world, including Italy, Sri Lanka, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand. Local authors also contributed their haiku to the competition. Tim Mueller, a local writer and public school teacher, served as the judge.
All the haiku entries can be found on the Irmo Cherry Blossom Festival’s Facebook page using the authors’ initials. Congratulations to Marcellin Dallaire-Beaumont for the evocative haiku capturing the spirit of the festival.
