Wide receiver Donovan Murph made a lasting impact in his two seasons at Irmo High School.
Paired with quarterback A.J. Brand, he was a two-time All-State selection who helped the Yellow Jackets make two Lower State final appearances and finish Class 5A Division II runner-up this past season.
Off the field, Murph maintained a 4.127 GPA and helped mentor at-risk boys through the school’s Key Club.
Having graduated a year early to start his football career at the University of South Carolina, Murph has earned another honor. During Thursday’s S.C. Football Hall of Fame Enshrinement Ceremony in Greenville, he was named the 2025 Bridge Builder Excellence Award winner.
“I was surprised because of the rarity of the award and how many greats were around to see me receive this award,” Murph said. “And it means a lot because I am continuing to make history in Irmo, and that is truly a Blessing to leave a legacy in your city.
Presented by The Spinx Company, the award recognizes a high school football player in South Carolina who exemplifies excellence both on and off the field—demonstrating leadership in the classroom, community, and through athletic performance.
Murph will receive a scholarship, a certificate of excellence, a commemorative plaque and be invited to speak at the South Carolina College and Career Decision Day at the Statehouse on May 7, 2025.
Gilbert tight end Connor Gooding and Summerville quarterback Jaden Cummings were the other finalists.
“South Carolina Hall of Fame, it doesn’t get any bigger than that,” Murph said. “It’s like a testament of all the hard work I really put in. It’s kind of gets me a little emotional because I prayed a lot for this. I worked hard. I went through a lot, so to finally be here it’s a blessing.”
