Spring Hill High School will be recognized today, Thursday, October 2, as South Carolina’s College Application Month “School of Excellence” by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education.
The honor also places Spring Hill among just 26 schools nationwide recognized by ACT’s American College Application Campaign (ACAC) for their efforts to increase college access. The ACAC initiative focuses on helping first-generation students and those from under-resourced communities take the critical step of applying to college.
“Applying for college can be one of the most intimidating parts of a student’s high school education,” the Commission noted. “These recognized schools have gone above and beyond to empower students through the process.”
Spring Hill boasts an impressive 89% of graduates attending two- or four-year colleges, a success the school credits to its dedicated counseling department. The team works closely with students to ensure they have the tools and guidance necessary to navigate applications.
College Application Month was first launched in South Carolina in 2009 and has since grown into a cornerstone of the state’s efforts to encourage higher education. Nationally, the campaign has reached nearly 5.2 million students, resulting in more than 10 million applications submitted since 2005.
This is the sixth year ACAC has recognized outstanding schools nationwide.
