The spring post-season for Chapin teams opened Monday with mixed results.
It started in Mount Pleasant where the boys’ lacrosse team looked to dethrone 4-time defending champion Lucy Beckham in the Class 5A Division II Lower State final.
In a rematch of last year’s quarterfinal, the Eagles fell again to the Bengals by a 20-6 score. They finished the season with a 14-4 overall record and Region 4-5A champions.
The Lady Eagles had their shot at defending champion Lucy Beckham on Tuesday. They were seeking their fifth state championship appearance in pursuit of a third title for the program.
Also on Monday, the Chapin softball team began its playoff run against Westwood.
The Lady Eagles trailed 7-5 before a 2-run single by Eleanor Broussard tied the game at 7-7 in the fifth inning. Westwood reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning off an error.

Chapin rallied again in the bottom half of the inning. Brynley Pigate tied the game with a sacrifice fly and Kyleigh Hubbard hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Mykayla Miller.
The Lady Redhawks had runners on first and second in the Top 7th, but Campbell Mitchell got the final out in relief for the 9-8 victory. Up next for Chapin was a road game Wednesday at top seed and last year’s runner-up St. James.
After first-round byes, both Chapin soccer teams and baseball open play this weekend in the Class 5A Division II playoffs.
The top-seeded Lady Eagles will face the Berkeley/Irmo winner Friday at Cecil Woolbright Field. The next night, the second-seeded Chapin boys will take the field to face either Lugoff-Elgin or Goose Creek.
In baseball, third-seed Chapin will play host Saturday to the winner of the Best-of-Three play-in series between Socastee and Conway.
