Nursery Road partners with Camp Leopold

Nursery Road Elementary School-Arts Magnet fourth-grade teachers Beth Lechner, Kerry Moore, and Ashlyn Durel teamed up with Camp Leopold to provide an enriching three-day field trip experience for the students at Camp Leopold located in Pinewood.

It has long been dedicated to connecting students with the natural world. Through this partnership, fourth-grade students from Nursery Road will have the unique opportunity to apply their classroom knowledge in a real-life outdoor setting. This field trip aligns with the purpose of Camp Leopold, which is to inspire young minds to become responsible stewards of the environment while teaching them valuable life skills

Beth Lechner, Team Leader of the fourth-grade teachers at Nursery Road, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership.

“This collaboration with Camp Leopold is a dream come true for us. It’s a chance for our students to learn in a whole new way, and build a lifelong love of learning about nature and ways connected to it,” Lechner said.

Principal of Nursery Road Elementary School, Karey Fisher said, “This field trip experience for a Title I elementary school is invaluable as it will provide hands-on learning opportunities to reinforce classroom teaching and promote equitable access to quality education.”

The Sales and Marketing Director at Camp Leopold, Jack Brooks played an instrumental role in securing grants and funding for the field trip, making it accessible to the Nursery Road Title One school students.

“Camp Leopold at the South Carolina Waterfowl Association is proud to help fund Nursery Road Elementary School – Arts Magnet to experience Environmental Education and Conservation,” said Brooks. “As an alumnus of Nursery Road, I am ecstatic to start building this partnership with School District Five, and am ready to grow that relationship with all the schools in the Midlands.”

The field trip is planned for students in March. They will have the opportunity to canoe, explore the woods, participate in team-building activities and learn about wildlife animals.
