In the October 21, 2021 edition of the New Irmo News there was a front-page article entitled “Candidates snub Chamber forum”. That article states that I did not respond to the invitation extended by Kerry Powers, CEO of the Greater Irmo Chamber of Commerce, by the deadline. That is incorrect. I did respond to Ms. Powers by the deadline, indicating that I had a prior commitment for the evening of the 20th which required my participation and would prevent my participation in the forum. Although I agree that candidate forums are important, I had to follow through on my prior commitment.
Unfortunately, Ms. Powers had not seen my response prior to providing information to the New Irmo News.
I want to make it clear to your readers that I did not ignore the gracious invitation from the Chamber to participate in the forum, and would gladly have participated if my schedule had allowed.
